Basin area of oil palm represents active root zone. Hence it must be kept clean and weed free to avoid competition for nutrients and water.
In oil palm, Practice ablation by removing inflorescences emerging from leaves during first, second and third year after planting. Ablation will enable the plant to gain adequate stem girth, vigour and develop adequate root growth.
